When to go on an organized tour through Cambodia?

Cambodia is an Eden still unknown to tourists, which makes it a destination of choice for travelers in search of adventure, calm and authenticity.

The best time to go to Cambodia is from November to March, before the heat wave quickly hits the region. This is the ideal season to discover the jewels of Angkor, the enchanting tropical Atlantis, Siem Reap ; Battambang old-fashioned charm, Phnom Penh, , the capital of Cambodia, or even the dream beaches of Gulf of Siam.

What is the climate and weather like in Cambodia?

Cambodia enjoys a tropical climate with two distinct seasons. The dry season extends from November to March with temperatures ranging from 25°C to 30°C. The monsoon blowing from the northeast brings very little rain. The dry season varies by region. The north of the country experiences four dry months, while the south of the country experiences two. January, the coolest month, is the best month to visit the country, with little rainfall and quite bearable heat.

In the rainy season, from May to October, the humid heat is accompanied by temperatures around 35 to 40°C. The rains are regular and intense, but short, making the days relatively sunny. Many tourist attractions, such as the temples of Angkor, however, are much less crowded. At the start of the season, the heat becomes almost stifling. The sea temperature invites swimming all year round at Sihanoukville, the most famous seaside resort in the country.

Departure in the day to Siem Reap. Flights made on scheduled airlines with stopovers. Night on board.

Siem Reap

Upon your arrival in Siem Reap, you will be greeted by your local English speaking guide who will accompany you to the hotel for check in. Siem Reap is the starting point for exploring the famous temples of Angkor, the ancient capital of the Khmer Empire. Sit back and enjoy some free time before the tours start.

Immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the Angkor site by discovering the temples of the beginning of the era of Roluos, about 15km from Siem Reap. Roluos is the site of the first city built by the Kings of Angkor during the 8th and 9th centuries. It consists of three main temples: Bakong, Preah Ko and Lolei. The surrounding countryside with its rice fields and sugar palm trees is typical of Cambodia. You will enjoy this scenery on a bullock cart ride to Roluos Pagoda, a great way to experience rural Cambodia and its welcoming people. Then, in a small local pagoda, Buddhist monks will perform a private blessing ceremony in your honor, to wish you good health and a safe journey - a once in a lifetime experience!

Then enjoy the incredible view from a captive helium balloon that soars 120 meters and admire the site of Angkor Wat amidst the rice fields and surrounding jungle.

A traditional Khmer dinner will be served on the terrace of The Sugar Palm Restaurant, a charming local wooden house.

Overnight in Siem Reap.

Siem Reap

After breakfast, visit the ancient city of Angkor Thom, the last capital of the Khmer Empire during the reign of Jayavarman VII. This city is surrounded by a rampart 8 m high, drawing a perfect square. Enter the city through the South Gate, a monumental stone gate adorned with four huge faces and a three-headed elephant. Past this door, is on each side of the aisle, a row of 54 giants, gods or demons holding Naga, the sacred serpent.

From there, continue on the back of an elephant to the Bayon temple, the exact center of the city of Angkor Thom. This 12th century masterpiece is very famous thanks to its 54 face towers representing the 54 provinces of the great Khmer Empire. The Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King are also unmissable for their intricate bas-reliefs. Return to the hotel for a break during the high heat of the midday.

In the early afternoon, explore the colorful markets of Siem Reap and the famous Artisans of Angkor: created in 1992 to support Cambodian crafts and art and to help young people find work in their village. by practicing traditional local crafts. Find out how wood and stone carvings, lacquers, gilding and silk painting are made.

End your day with a visit to the temples of the Small Circuit by tuk tuk. The most famous of these is the Ta Prohm, built between the 2nd half of the 12th and the beginning of the 13th century. The Ta Prohm is unique in that it has been preserved largely as it was discovered: overgrown with jungle and roots, many parts of the ruined temple remain on the ground. This makes it one of the most picturesque and memorable of Angkor's temples. Your tour will also include a visit to Banteay Kdei, a late 12th century Buddhist monastery, and Srah Srang, known as the "ablution pool".

Return to the hotel.
Overnight in Siem Reap.

Sieam Reap

Start the day relatively early in order to have the chance to see the sunrise over Angkor Wat, the first rays lighting up the famous 5 towers, an unforgettable experience! After breakfast at the Angkor Café, just in front of the temple, set off to explore it.

Built during the reign of King Suryavarman at the beginning of the 12th century, Angkor Wat combines two bases of Khmer architecture for temples: the temple-mountain side and the temple-gallery side. It was designed to represent Mount Meru, the home of the gods in Hindu mythology. Inside the temple, the walls are covered with stone carvings and bas-reliefs depicting Hindu mythology and the wars Suryavarman II fought in during his reign. Angkor Wat is also famous for the Apsara dancers (over 2.000) decorating it. The construction would have taken about thirty years of intensive work. Today, Angkor Wat is featured on the national flag of Cambodia as the symbol of the soul of the Khmer people.

Then, departure for the “pearl” of the Angkor region, the delightful temple of Banteay Srey, known to be magnificent in the early hours of the morning. This so-called "Citadel of Women" remains the most preserved temple in Cambodia. It contains the most beautiful examples of classical Khmer art, and in particular its remarkable bas-reliefs. Banteay Srey is unique in that it is built of pink sandstone, which is not seen anywhere else in Angkor.

Continue north to Kbal Spean, one of Cambodia's premier Hindu pilgrimage sites. A short 3 km walk through jungle to the top of the hill will give you a magnificent view of the Kulen plain and hills. At the top, be amazed by the “River of 1000 Lingas” and some remarkable stone sculptures of Hindu gods, animals and others in the river bed. During the rainy season, do not hesitate to bathe in the waterfall, like many Cambodian families. Picnic at the waterfall.
On the way back to Siem Reap, stop at the Mines Museum which will educate you on the problem of anti-personnel mines in Cambodia. Mr Aki Ra, the founder of the museum, was trained as a child soldier during the Khmer Rouge regime and today works as a deminer. The museum is also a rescue center for child amputees, victims of landmines that Aki Ra has brought from the streets of Phnom Penh or from poor rural communities.

Return to Siem Reap in the afternoon. Free time.
Overnight in Siem Reap.

Siem Reap - Battambang

After an early breakfast, embark on a private boat for a fascinating journey on Tonle Sap Lake, the heart of Cambodia, to Battambang. You will cross floating villages and mangroves, the image of life on the water. Lunch on board. (Duration of the crossing: 5-7 hours).

Note: This boat trip is only possible in the rainy season (the water level would be too low during the dry season and the transfer times are very long. Possibility of transfer by road).
Arrival in Battambang. Short break at the hotel. During the afternoon, visit some of the many villages around Battambang where you will learn how the locals produce rice paper, prahoc (typical Cambodian fish paste), grolan (sticky rice) ) and other Khmer treats.

During the evening, a special visit awaits you at Phare Ponleu Selpak. School of Music, Visual and Performing Arts - Phare Ponleu Selpak combines the arts and the possibility for poor communities to benefit from training, support and entertainment. This project is an example of humanitarian success: how such a project can, against all odds, turn into a moment of intense joy, real warmth and creativity. You will attend one of their circus shows that will leave you with lasting memories!
After the show, a dinner is planned in the Center.

(Note: The circus show is not daily. Private shows can be organized on request.)

Night in Battambang.

Battambang - Phnom Penh

Enjoy a good breakfast at the hotel.

Then go to the train station of bamboo. This bamboo train was set up by the villagers in order to facilitate the transport of goods and people because the conventional trains did not roll regularly.
The "train" itself is very simple: it is a bamboo platform on four wheels activated by a small motor. Sitting on the platform (we will provide some cushions for your comfort), you will travel 8 km, to the next station, through beautiful landscapes and lush green rice fields (depending on the season).

(Note: The railway between Battambang and Phnom Penh is currently under reconstruction and the bamboo train service does not run regularly).

In the early afternoon, transfer by car to Phnom Penh (duration 4 hours). On arrival, break at your hotel.
In the evening, welcome dinner at Lotus Blanc, to discover the delicious Khmer cuisine. This restaurant, located in a very pleasant location, employs street children and teaches them the principles of hospitality.

(Note: The White Lotus is generally closed during national holidays and during the month of April, Khmer New Year holidays).
Overnight in Phnom Penh.

Phnom Penh,

This morning, visit the most remarkable sites of Phnom Penh by cyclo, typical means of transport and a fun way to discover the city.

You will explore the Royal Palace dating from 1866 which was the last palace built during the French colonial period, the typical houses and the Silver Pagoda, whose name origin is the 5000 massive silver tiles that cover the floor. Its original name is Wat Prakeo, which means the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. In this temple you will see a collection of gold, silver, crystal and bronze Buddhas.

Your next stop will be the National Museum, built in traditional Khmer style. It houses the world's largest collection of Khmer, archaeological and religious art objects dating from the 4th to the 13th centuries. More than 5000 pieces are on display, constituting the benchmark in terms of the Kingdom's cultural wealth. The roof also houses a colony of bats!

You will then take the road that borders the river to Wat Phnom, the founding place of the city which is located in a pagoda, at the top of a hill.
Optional: Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum.
If you wish, you can get a glimpse into Cambodia's recent dark history by visiting the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, located in the former school used by the Khmer Rouge as a detention and torture center, called "S-21 ". A somber, but important tour that will allow you to dig below the surface and gain a better understanding of Cambodia.

End of the day at the Russian market, where you will have ample opportunity to hunt for souvenirs from Cambodia.
