Best season to make a tailor-made trip to India

Although the temperatures are different depending on the region visited, we recommend the period from November to February, which is mild in most of the country.

Jaisalmer - Jodhpur

Back to Jodhpur, "the Blue City", located on the edge of the Thar Desert is the largest city in Rajasthan after Jaipur, via Ossian.

Ossian is an important pilgrimage center for the Jain community. The Mahavira Temple, built here in the year 783, is an important tîrtha for Jains. It was built by King Gurjara Pratihara Vatsaraja.

In the afternoon, visit of the fort. Then, set off to explore its narrow streets dominated by these azure blue havelis, the color of the Brahmans… they literally merge with the sky of Rajasthan. They are the scene of a daily and traditional life where sacred and imperturbable cows rub shoulders with donkeys, milk collectors, children in uniform, women in sari chatting on the doorsteps with their neighbours. Discover the famous 'Sadar bazzar with its many craftsmen: manufacturers of traditional crystal bracelets, traditional padlocks in the most varied shapes…. The falling light shimmers with its orange tones on the ramparts of the fort of Mehrangarh, the “citadel of the sun” which dominates Jodhpur.

Night.

Jodhpur Ranakpur Udaipur

On the road to Udaipur, visit the temples of Ranakpur. Between the gentle hills of the Aravalli Mountains, the Jain temples of Ranakpur are like white marble flowers in a green setting. In the hollow of a shady valley stands the largest temple jain from all over India: the Chaumukha or "Four Heads", dedicated to Adinath, the first "Stepper".

The site is one of the five major pilgrimages of Jainism. The temple of Adinatha  is one of the most beautiful and vast Jain buildings in India. It covers an area of 3 600 m² and has no less than 29 halls, 1 440 pillars none of which is carved identically and some 80 cupolas.

All the temples were built in the 15th century at the initiative of a wealthy Jain merchant to honor the gods of his faith. The monastic complex now houses a small community of Jain monks, visited by many pilgrims.

Futuristic architectures of sundials, signs of the zodiac and other astrolabes.

Jaipur.

Excursion to Amber Fort, with its palaces, its halls set with mirrors and the old harem. The old fortress of the princes (XNUMXth-XNUMXth century) contains very beautiful rooms, in particular the audience room, and the reception room, richly decorated with mirrors. Jaipur - Fatehpur Sikri - Agra

On the road to Agra, visit of Fatehpur Sikri, former imperial capital frozen in the past., splendid imperial city whose buildings of red sandstone are in a perfect state of conservation. The story of the birth of this mysterious city is the subject of a legend: in Sikri lived a saint, whom Akbar, in need of an heir, went to consult; a son will be born the following year and Akbar, grateful, had a palace built there. Thousands of artisans will then bring up the city of Sikri, renamed Fatehpur "the city of victory" by Akbar. But he abandoned it, 14 years later, to go back to the campaign.
At the time when the English came to meet Akbar there, they could not believe their eyes, at the time the city was more important than London. Now she's deserted ...

Agra - Delhi

In the morning, visit Taj Mahal (closed on Friday). He has something to fascinate. Could it be for its romantic and romantic story?

The Mughal Sultan Shah Jehan wanted to erect for his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal, a burial commensurate with the love he had for her. He summoned an architect from Persia whose wife he had murdered so that he could feel the pain of this loss. The pharaonic works spanned 20 years. We had to bring the white marble from far away. Shah Jehan intended to be buried in a twin mausoleum at the Taj Mahal made of black granite. But his dreams of a romantic builder were cut short by his son Aurangzeb who deposed him and locked him in the Red Fort until the end of his days.

Then the Red Fort whose military power cannot be doubted. Protected by heavy ramparts, the Red Fort is elevated and dominates the urban fabric and the Yamouna River. It is no longer accessed by the great Delhi Dawârza (Delhi gate), but by the Amar Singh Dawârza (Amar Singh gate), which precedes another interior bastion flanked by two towers. Double membrane of impressive and effective protection, the British were able to resist here several months during the revolution of the sepoys, in 1857, this bastion is moreover the only one dating from the time of Akbar, great founder of the Mughal dynasty. Its red sandstone architecture is similar to that of Fatehpur Sikri, the emperor's previous capital. The other pavilions, made under his successors, Shah Jehan and Aurangzeb, make intensive use of white marble.

Back to Delhi, room available to cool off before transfer to the airport.
