Uzbekistan has been the crossroads of many lifestyles and conquerors. The country has more than 2,7 million inhabitants and has an area of ​​447 m². The greatest empires, over the centuries, took possession of this country before becoming an independent state. Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, is considered the largest city in Central Asia and has more than 400 million inhabitants. This has long been located at the crossroads of old trade routes; including the mythical Silk Road. Nukus is known for its many museums, the most popular of which are; the Savitskiy Museum of Fine Arts and the Karakalpakistan State Museum. Also discover the ruins of fortresses from the 2st century BC are perched on top of a hill in the middle of the desert; Toprak Kala and Ayazkala.

In Khiva, discover the “open-air museum” divided into two parts; Dichan Kala (the outer city) and Itchan Kala (the inner city). A journey through the history of Uzbekistan

Shakhrisabz, which means “green city” in Persian, is the birthplace of Tamerlane. On site, visit the ruins of the “White Palace” of Ak Sarai, the blue dome of the Kok-Goumbaz mosque and the Goumbazi Sayidan mausoleum. The city is also home to many artisans specializing in embroidery, tapestries and ceramics that you can observe. Samarkand is the capital of the Tamerlane Empire. This city conceals a very beautiful Gour-Emir mausoleum built during the 14th century by the grandson of Tamerlane. This particular mausoleum knows how to stand out with its impressive dome and sparkling blue tiles adorning it.

Tashkent (4 km)

Early morning arrival in Tashkent via Istanbul / Moscow / direct from Paris. On arrival, you will meet your English speaking guide and the driver who will be with you throughout the trip. Transfer to the hotel. After a long night flight you will rest at the hotel until the middle of the day. Possibility to have breakfast from 7 am to 10 am. At lunchtime you will gather to experience our first lunch in Uzbekistan in the only local traditional restaurant in town: the " chaikhana Where local dishes will be served. Throughout the trip you will have lunch and dinner in local restaurants and you will test yourself to the local gastronomy.

Start of visit of the capital of Uzbekistan.

Tashkent is the capital of the country and the largest city in Central Asia with a population of about 2,3 million. Tashkent has long been at the crossroads of ancient trade routes along the Silk Road. You will visit the old districts of Tashkent, the tracks of Khast Imam, and those restored as Barak-Khan madrassa (schools and colleges Islam), Kaffal ash-Shashiy museum and the big complex - the Friday mosque.

Visit of the library and the bazaar Chorsuwhich is the center of everyday life in the heart of the old town.
The bazaar includes a unique complex of trading rooms, crowned with connected domes.

Tashkent- Nukus (domestic flight 1h40) - Ayaz Kala - Khiva (200km 4h drive)

After breakfast early in the morning, you will be transferred to Tashkent Domestic Airport and fly to Nukus, bordering the Kyzyl-Kum desert. Visit of Savitskiy Museum of Fine Arts known by its richest collection in the world of paintings of the Russian avant-garde painters of the 20-30 years of XXss., the time of decadence.

After lunch in the local restaurant Neo, departure for Khiva. On the way visit fortresses of the desert Kyzyl-Kum, Toprak Kala and Ayazkala from the 1 century BC. the ruins of the two citadels are perched on a hill in the middle of the desert. Khiva (walking tours)

After breakfast, day hike to Khiva, an "open air museum" which consists of two parts: Dichan Kala - the outer city, and the "inner city" - Ichan Kala - surrounded 2,2 km long sloping brick wall with ancient foundations of the 10th century.

Afterwards, visit of the Kounya Citadel , the residence of the khans of Khiva, founded in the 1680 years, and other buildings added in the 19e and 20e centuries. We visit the minaret Kalta Minar, one of the most ambitious projects, minaret that has been the highest in the Islamic world.

The construction was abandoned when the minaret was raised 26 m, because of the khan's death. Continue to Djuma Mosque and minaret, built in the nineteenth century in the Arab mosque.

Lunch at a local restaurant in the city. After lunch, we continue with the visit of complex Islam Khodja, built in the 11-12 century and rebuilt in the 19-20 century: it is a Koranic school and the highest minaret of the city: a symbol.

Khiva - Bukhara (480 kms, 6-8h of roads)

After breakfast, depart for Khiva through the Kyzylkum desert. The trip will take between 6 and 8 hours. On the way, you will stop several times to have the opportunity to take pictures of the desert and the panoramic view of Amoudaria river bed (the old Oxus). The beauty of this place makes a great impression on all travelers.

You will have packed lunches halfway to Khiva. You will arrive in Bukhara at the end of the afternoon. Your hotel, decorated according to tradition, is located in the heart of the city.

Bukhara

After a breakfast, you will start your visit to Bukhara, inhabited for at least five thousand years.

Located on the Silk Road, the city has long been the center of commerce, learning, culture and religion. You will start with the visit of Mausoleum of Ismail Samani  and Chasma Ayub, with its conical dome. You will then discover the oldest archaeological complex in the city, Ark : impressive citadel of the 1er century, which was rebuilt after being destroyed by the Red Army in 1920. In front of the arch, we can see the mosque of Bolokhauz dating from the XNIXXth century. In the late morning, visit the square complex Poi-Kalon of 12-18 centuries, dominated by the Kalon minaret, main symbol of the city, and the Mir-i-Arab Madrasah, Koranic school.

After lunch, you will walk on the main square, Lyabi-Hauz, built around a
large pool of water, and visit the oldest preserved mosque in Bukhara: the mosque Magoki-Attori.

Bukhara (a trip outside the city 10km)

After breakfast, drive north of the city to the old town summer palace, residence of the emirs of Bukhara, built in the second half of the XNIXXth century. It houses today a museum of decorative arts. Continuation to Bakhauddin Nakshbandi, one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Bukhara where we can find the mausoleum of the famous Sufi philosopher, Bahauddin Nakshbandi.

Back to the old town for lunch.

Free afternoon. 

Bukhara - Chakhrisabz - Samarkand (360km, 5h of road)

In the morning, departure to Shakhrisabz, the birthplace of the conqueror Tamerlan, where you will visit the ruins of Ak Sarai's “White Palace”, the blue dome of the Kok-Goumbaz mosque and the Goumbazi Sayidan mausoleum. you can also observe the many craftsmen of the old town (embroidery, ceramics and rugs).

This afternoon, continue your journey through the pass Takhtakaracha (1670m), where you can enjoy magnificent panoramic views overlooking the mountains of Zeravchan. Arrival in Samarkand and check in at the hotel.

Samarkand (10km)

After breakfast, you will start the tour of Samarkand, the capital of the Tamerlan empire. Visit of the very beautiful Gur-Emir Mausoleum 14th century with its dome, adorned with bright blue tiles. It was built for Tamerlane's grandson.

We will have lunch at a local restaurant to 13h.

The afternoon continues with a visit to the capital Timurid, also called the Pearl of the Orient, as well as the remarkable place of the Registan composed of three Koranic schools: Medersas Ulugh-Beg, Tilya-Kori and Sher-Dor Madrassa and the Bibi-Khanyum mosque, dating from the beginning of the 15th century. Stroll in the local "Siab" bazaar and immersion in the locals to learn how to cook the famous traditional Uzbek dish "Plov".

For those who are interested, there is an evening walk to Registan Square. Return and overnight at the hotel.

Samarkand - Tashkent (300km, fast train 2h)

After breakfast, discover the vast area of ​​the necropolis of Shah-I-Zinda ("The Living King") with its rows of richly decorated mausoleums built during the Timurid Empire. Continuation to the Ulugh-Bek Observatory who was Tamerlane's grandson and famous astronomer. Today it is the symbol of the city's cultural development.
